Sounds easy but it can be tempting to micro-manage my child's artwork by telling them where to put the eyes on the dog or stars in the scene. Happily my kids don't tend to follow examples I provide, but I do try to create art with them rather than before them (as a sample) to prevent myself from hindering their expression.
The other obstacle is the mess that comes with painting. A sweet friend gifted my daughter Kwik Stix one year and we use them so much because they are less mess but still give the color pay off of paint. I also have a washable table cover that I put on the ground outside and allow the mess to happen.
2. Expose them to diverse artists and move beyond the typical 'masters' I learned about (there are so many artists to explore beyond VanGoh and Pollock, if you have any suggetions please share) 3. Explore new art techniques (would love suggestions on this as well)
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Riding bikes (we do this a lot and it is simple pure family fun). We started our kids out on balance bikes, I got the Banana bike brand on Amazon. Once they were gliding confidently on these, we purchased used Woom pedal bikes (no training wheels). I give these bikes a lot of credit for helping my kids learn to ride bikes very quickly (20 minutes give or take). We got our Woom bikes used via Craigslist but they are still very expensive. However, they sell for at least 75% of their cost, even used. And during these covid times these used Woom bikes are selling for well above list price, the very same day they are listed. So basically they are very expensive but I feel they are worth it because you will get your money back.
Taking hikes (we are thankful to live near beautiful trails)
Playing in the backyard
Before Covid-19 my kids had tried a lot of sports classes. Both were taking swimming and basketball, my daughter was in gymnastics, and my son was in soccer. I look forward to being able to resume some of these when possible
We also want to investigate tennis, hockey, and rock climbing (thanks to my rock climbing star niece)
I would love to hear what sports your kids love or you loved growing up
MUSIC
I know little about music other than that I love it, so please share your ideas
Right now we try to expose them to diverse music, singers, and musicians
They took a dance/music class before covid
Had a music class as babies
Know the names of instruments thanks to a great children's book
Discussing basic elements of music while listening (pitch, tempo, volume, beat)
